Alligator attack victim rescued

MIAMI A man was pulled from the jaws of an alligator in central Florida. The victim lost his left arm and suffered a broken right arm and severe damage to his left leg, Grady Judd, the Polk County sheriff, said.

Several people reported hearing screams for help at about 4am and four sheriff’s deputies arrived at Lake Parker to find Adrian Apgar, 45, in the grasp of the alligator. The deputies waded through waist-deep mud, pulled the man free and dragged him 40 yards back to an ambulance. He was in a critical condition in hospital.

It was not clear whether Mr Apgar had gone swimming or was pulled into the water. Officials were searching the lake for the alligator, whose size is not known. “Obviously it was big enough to do some pretty serious damage,” Donna Wood, a sheriff’s spokeswoman, said. (Reuters)
