The cellist loves rarities: here it’s Prokofiev’s 1930s Cello Concerto, resurrected alongside its later revision, the Symphony Concerto from 1952. The first is leaner in sound, elusive in mood; the second is florid and confident, with hotter drama and lyricism. Gerhardt’s singing passion finds a bigger outlet there, but he’s good to hear in either work. So is the Bergen Philharmonic, sharply conducted by Andrew Litton.
