Sir, I was the proud owner of an upmarket Hillman Imp known as a Singer Chamois, which had its own quaint eccentricities (letters, Mar 6 & 9). One of these was a tendency to rear up at the front, thereby losing contact with the road, when travelling at more than 50mph. The solution was to load the luggage compartment, situated at the front, with bricks.
Thus stabilised, my sewing machine on wheels tootled up and down the country in perfect safety.
