Sir Ben Ainslie’s Land Rover BAR team could manage only third place in the Gothenburg leg of the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series, which finished yesterday.

Emirates Team New Zealand won both concluding races on a tight course in light winds to take the overall lead.

“It’s frustrating,” said Ainslie, who won the opening leg at Portsmouth.

“But that’s the nature of the sport. In these conditions you need to get a good start and we didn’t do that.

“It’s hard to work your way back after that. I thought the Kiwis sailed a brilliant second race.”
