Compared to Sufjan Stevens’s gift-ribboned gift this week, the Christmas offering from Aimee Mann (above) sounds a bit old hat. Still, there’s always room for the musical version of eggnog by a roaring fire at this undemanding time of year.

One More Drifter in the Snow is all torchy phrasing, ember-glowing guitar and brushed drums. Mann (above) goes all Julie London and Peggy Lee on the ballads, and you will never hear a more languid version of White Christmas. But it’s not all cosy — You’re A Mean One, Mr Grinch provides a playful vocal, while the New Orleans undercurrents on God Rest

Ye Merry Gentlemen hints at a more sloshed approach to the Christmas spirit.
