Aidy Boothroyd was sacked by Coventry City this morning, less than ten months after taking charge at the Ricoh Arena.

Despite a promising start to the season, the npower Championship side have won just one of their past 16 games to slip to 19th, seven points above the relegation zone. Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Hull City proved to be the final straw for the board.

Martin Pert, the assistant manager, has also been relieved of his duties with first-team coach Steve Harrison and chief scout Andy Thorn placed in temporary charge of team affairs. Boothroyd’s dismissal leaves Coventry looking for their tenth manager in ten years since Gordon Strachan left the club September 2001.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Aidy and Martin for their efforts,” a statement read. “We will not be holding a media conference today as the team is preparing for the match at Burnley tomorrow.”

Boothroyd took over from Chris Coleman at the Ricoh Arena at the end of last season, having left left Colchester United, where he had been manager for nine and a half months, to take charge. He had previously been in charge at Watford, leading the club to the Premier League in 2006, his first full campaign in management, before they were relegated the following season. He left Vicarage Road in November 2008.
