Aguas De Ibiza Hotel, Ibiza

A romantic, stunning hotel to relax in on the clubbing island

Ibiza sunsets are legendary, so where better to watch one then lying in a fragrant bath on the balcony of room 405 in the Aguas De Ibiza hotel with a glass of chilled wine in hand? An equally fabulous location is the hotel’s roof terrace where one can lounge around the pool with a cocktail.

As you may have guessed, my stay involved quite a few drinks. Then this is Ibiza, where any excuse for a drink is taken advantage of. My friend Jo and I had started our trip in a villa, where rather than have a break from domestic life, we found ourselves cooking, cleaning and tidying. As a treat, we booked in for one night at the Aguas De Ibiza where we could completely relax for at least 24 hours before flying back to London.

The hotel is in the stunning Santa Eluia area of Ibiza and has magnificent views across the sea and to the lush mountains. To be expected given that it is part of a ecoluxury, a hotel chain that specialises in ecologically sound but still luxurious properties in areas of outstanding natural beauty.

It is one of the most exquisite hotels I have stayed in, the interior decor is minimal but striking thanks to Spain’s feted design collective Triade Studio. The hotel’s outdoor areas are equally gorgeous; the roof terrace has a cocktail bar and a resident DJ to get guests in the mood for their evening ahead. On the ground floor, scattered around the two pools are comfortable beds filled with baking bodies.

The standard rooms are a generous size, but if you were of a mind to treat yourself, I would recommend booking one of the cloud suites. Only two of these rooms have balcony baths, so if you want that sunset moment do make a special request.

Wireless internet is available throughout the hotel, perfect for when you want to research where you’re heading out for the night. And once you’re back, the beds are perfect for laying your clubbing weary body upon for a rejuvenating sleep.

Once up and ready to go again, the shower is powerful and the bathroom stocked with heavenly scented Essential Elements toiletries. Following a week of sun and sea, my highlighted hair was nearing frazzle, but the Essential Elements’ conditioner soothed the frizz, how often can you rely upon hotel toiletries to leave you feeling pampered?

However, if you want more pampering then the hotel spa is well equipped to do this. You don’t need to book a treatment to enjoy a spa session. The Japanese-themed décor creates a serene atmosphere, a soothing place to indulge in the steam and sauna rooms, nip into the plunge pool or, if you feel active, take a dip in the hydrotherapy pool.

We didn’t have dine at the hotel, but did ask two guests who had eaten there the previous evening to give their thoughts. They thought it was “nice” but they were not blown away by it. On TripAdvisor there are plenty of positive reviews, but there are negative ones that all seem to lead to two gripes, the food and service. When dinner without drinks costs around 45€ per person, then it might be worth making more of an investigation of the surrounding restaurants before booking a table.

Contrary to the negative TripAdvisor reviews, I could not fault the service; staff were incredibly helpful, booking taxis, giving directions, advice, and making sure, we had a breakfast picnic waiting when we had to leave at 7am to catch our flight.

I spoke to a couple who had spent two nights at the hotel as part of their honeymoon and they were very enthusiastic about the service, and the special attention and welcome bottle of fizz they had received. And again, on TripAdvisor the rating out of 39 reviews was a 74 per cent positive feedback.

Aguas De Ibiza hotel has achieved that perfect balance of cool and comfort, and after a week of cleaning, clubbing and synchronised swimming in our villa’s pool, it was the perfect way to end our holiday.
