Affairs of the week

THAT mischievous little chap Cupid is in town again – haphazardly waving his bow and arrow about.

Love is all around you and, given that we spend more of our waking hours with our colleagues than with our partners, it’s not surprising that career and romance often overlap. But staff at Lancashire County Council may have to think twice before getting amorous, People Management (Feb 7) reports.

Under the council’s code of conduct, staff must tell their line manager or HR of any personal relationship – inside or outside of work – that may result in their objectivity or integrity being challenged. Where your lover is your manager, issues could arise around approval of leave, appraisals or expenses, the council says.

From passion killers to the betrayal of a Mancunian love-affair. The House music legend Dave Haslam tells Regeneration and Renewal (Feb 8) that the regeneration of Manchester has sanitised the once-edgy northern capital.

Haslam, a former DJ and a key figure in Manchester’s underground music scene, told regeneration professionals that they had “betrayed” the city’s cultural revolution. “It has no longer got a generation that are able to find means of expression,” he says.
