Adults need sounds of silence, too

Pupils and adults need to have periods of silence in their day so that they can collect themselves

Sir, The innovation in introducing meditation to school pupils (report, Jan 12) is as brave as it is imaginative, and it is telling that it is underpinned by psychologists from Oxford and Cambridge universities. Pupils need to have periods of silence in their day so that they can collect themselves and reflect in our ever more frenetic world. Adults would benefit from such silence, too, but that is a wider mission.
