At the end of a two-year High Court battle, the firm prevented its client, Jabir Siddiq, who was referred to in court as Jabir Motiwala, from being extradited from the UK to the US. The Karachi businessman had faced charges of narcotics importation, extortion and money laundering, which he denied. The US Department of Justice withdrew the extradition request and dismissed all charges.

Motiwala was said to be the second in command to Ibrahim Dawood, the Indian boss of D-Company, an international criminal organisation, who is on the FBI’s most-wanted list for alleged involvement in the 1993 Mumbai bombings. More than 250 people were killed and more than 1,ooo seriously injured in the attacks.

The firm has been instructed for senior individuals involved in Serious Fraud Office investigations, including the engineering and construction services company Amec Foster Wheeler, which entered into a £103 million deferred prosecution agreement in July.

It also represented one of the soldiers exonerated in the Iraq Fatality Investigations which examined the death of Saeed Shabram, an Iraqi civilain who was alleged to have been drowned near Basra in 2003.
