Mothers of suspected gun criminals will get a special delivery this Mother’s Day, courtesy of the police. The Merseyside force is sending cards, which have a mug on the front bearing the words: “World’s Greatest Mum.” But when the cards are opened they show the mug smashed, with the words: “Don’t keep mum about gun crime . . . guns shatter lives.”
Police hope that the message will encourage mothers to turn their children away from gangs and guns.
Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Richardson said: “We are hoping that the strong bond between a mother and child will help mothers to come forward and speak to us so we can help to prevent their child from being jailed, seriously injured or even killed.”
