A burning issue

CONTROL CARS: Coal produces more than twice as much carbon dioxide per unit of energy generated as does natural gas. So even with sequestration, twice as much carbon dioxide must be sequestered if coal is burnt rather than natural gas.

Current technology is capable of producing cars that can do 80 miles to the gallon (more is possible). Most cars do 40 or less. If we are serious about global warming, why does the government not propose that all new cars sold in 2010 should do at least 80 mpg? This would cut greenhouse gas emissions by 5%.
