A biker drops in — from 5,000ft

A motorbike and base-jumping enthusiast from Wales claims to have set a world record by parachuting 5,000ft from a hot-air balloon ... while strapped to a Yamaha. Not only that, but he landed it safely.

Bernie Williams, 65, from Cardiff, made the jump in November in Michigan, America, and has posted footage of the leap on YouTube. In it he claims to have been waiting 20 years to make the attempt, although he accepts that the footage of the landing is far from clear. Undeterred, Williams ends the clip by promising to do it all again. The only question that remains is: why?
