800 stuck on Tube for 2 hours in 40C heat

HUNDREDS of Tube passengers were trapped underground in baking temperatures for up to two hours during the rush-hour.

A dozen people were treated for dehydration and exhaustion by ambulance workers after the incident in Central London yesterday morning.

More than 800 travellers endured temperatures of 40C (104F) in pitch darkness on the Central Line train. It was stuck behind a defective train on the approach to Bank station.

Irfan Zulfiqar, 27, a trainee retail manager, said: “We were forcing the doors open to let a bit of air in.”
