The experienced mountaineer knew the area well and was last seen near the summit heading towards an area which has a descent route.

The Irish Coast Guard assisted gardai in the operation, which was launched on Tuesday last, after the alarm was raised when Sebastian failed to return to work in Cork on Monday morning.

Irish Coast Guard rescue helicopters based at Shannon and Waterford were deployed alongside Coast Guard units from Dingle, Glenderry and Iveragh in the search for the missing man.

However, it emerged today that Sebastian's personal property was discovered on Banna Beach yesterday and the search on Mount Brandon has been stood down.

Gardai said they would continue the search with the assistance of the Coast Guard, along the coast of the Brandon Point area of Daingean Ui Chuis.

Kerry Mountain Rescue Team said their thoughts remain with Sebastian's family as the search continues.

In a post on social media, a spokesperson said: "The team was stood down by AGS last night as new information emerged in the search for Sebastian Jaworski.

"The search operation will now be concentrated on the coast for the coming days.

"KMRT wish to sincerely thank all those who participated in the mountain searches over the last week including Dingle Coast Guard, SARDA, R115 & R117 Heli crews, SEMRA, Dublin Wicklow MRT, Glen of Imaal MRT, Galway MRT and the Iveragh CG Drone Unit.

"We would again like to thank the locals of the Brandon/Cloghane area for their incredible generosity and support throughout the search operation. Go raibh míle maith agaibh."

The team added: "Thank you also to those in the wider mountaineering community who offered assistance to the team during the week.

"Finally, our thoughts remain with Sebastian's family and friends as the search continues."

'I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED'

Sebastian’s brother Jarek has thanked all those involved in the search and told how he is praying his brother will be found.

In a post on Kerry Mountain Rescue team’s social media, he said: "Thank you all very much for your involvement in the search for my brother Sebastian. We pray for him to be found.

"Sebastian loved hiking, cycling, kitesurfing and generally spending time actively.

"He was peaceful towards people and the world, always ready to help.

"I have no idea what happened in the mountains this time, that he was gone, such a large team and such commitment, and he still couldn't be found.

"Once again, a huge thank you for all and I hope he will be found soon."

Poor weather with low cloud hampered the search earlier this week but conditions improved on Monday and drones were sent up as a result.

The Coast Guard helicopter from Waterford, Rescue 117, flew an abseiling team drawn from the Kerry Mountain Rescue Team to the summit on Sunday morning.

The RNLI Lifeboat from Fenit conducted a search of the water at the base of the cliffs on Monday.
