Aontu leader Paedar Toibin today raised the death of the Canadian tourist in the Dail as he claimed that the main street of Dublin was not safe.

He said: “Today a Canadian tourist who was attacked on O’Connell Street last week has died in hospital.

“Neno Dolmajian from Montreal was 41-years old and it is a very sad occasion, a tragic occasion, a heart breaking occasion for his family and friends and our deepest sympathies go out to his family.

“But Taoiseach it points to a very, very serious issue that the main street in our capital city is a dangerous and violent place on a regular basis for so many people.

“And it’s not just the main street of our capital city, its towns and villages across the country people do not feel safe in and it’s not happening by accident.”

Local Independent Councillor Nial Ring told the Irish Sun: “This is awful and shocking news to hear.

“I am very sorry for the victim’s family and his relatives who are now grieving his loss. My heart goes out to them.

“No tourist should come here and lose their life in such circumstances.”
