‘My heart is broken’ – Devastation as uncle of teen, 17, ‘taken too soon’ in Co Cavan workplace accident pays tribute

The community has been left devastated by the terrible tragedy

HEARTBREAKING tributes have poured in for "a lovely young man taken too soon" after he died in a workplace accident on Thursday.

Reece Donohoe sadly passed away after an incident at the Wilton Waste Recycling Limited facility in Co Cavan at around 4.30pm.

The 17-year-old, who is from Kilnaleck, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Cavan General Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.

The Health and Safety Authority has confirmed they have launched an investigation in to the incident.

Reece's uncle Niall Donohoe told how the young lad "meant the world" to him in a devastating tribute on social media.

He continued: "You were my everything my heart is broken. Rest in peace gentle nephew."

Reece is sadly missed by his mum Mary, dad Brian, sisters Jade and Amber, his extended family and wide circle of friends.

In a notice on RIP.ie, the family asked that the house remain private until Reece's funeral details have been confirmed.

Heartbreaking tributes have poured in for tragic Reese as news of the devastating tragedy continues to shock the local community.

One mourner said: "No words to console this devastating news.

"Watched you grow up from a wee baby to your early teenage years, either coming or going into the playground. Such a loving child.

"To your heartbroken mother, Mary [he] was a lad that any mother be proud to have as your son."

Another told how Reece was a "lovely young lad" whilst a third said: "A bright young lad will be sadly missed. I'm glad to have known you for a short while."

A Cavan mother said: " It's just heartbreaking to see such a young man gone so soon. May God bless you all and hold you all tightly in his heart."

Wilton Waste Recycling Limited, located in Crosserlough in Ballyjamesduff, extended their "deepest condolences" to the family of the teenager.

'COMMUNITY IS IN COMPLETE SHOCK'

A spokesperson for the facility confirmed they have closed for the foreseeable as a mark of respect.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Trevor Smith described the accident as "terrible tragedy" and said the community is "devastated."

Speaking to The Irish Sun, he said: "The local community is in complete shock and it's a terrible tragedy in our area.

"We are all devastated for the family, for the parents, siblings, the whole family and friends.

"I have no doubt the community will support the family in any way they can and I wish to offer my deepest sympathies to the family."

Fine Gael Councillor Winston J. Bennett told how tragic Reece was a "young lad just starting life".

He added: "My heartfelt sympathies go out to family and everyone involved, to his bosses."
