Man dies and three Gardai injured in horror Co Kildare apartment fire after residents evacuated by ‘hero’ cops

Gardai went from door to door telling residents to 'get out' of the building

A MAN has died and three Gardai have been injured following a tragic apartment fire in Co Kildare.

Gardai and emergency services rushed to residential building in the Oldtown Demesne area of Naas, Co Kildare in the early hours of this morning after receiving reports of the blaze.

Gardai went from door to door and evacuated the building, which is understood to have around 20 apartments, and the fire was brought under control by the Fire Services.

The man was pronounced deceased at the scene.

His body remains at the scene, which is currently preserved for a technical examination.

Gardai confirmed to The Irish Sun that enquiries are "ongoing".

Three members of An Garda Siochana received medical attention following the horror blaze.

Kildare County Councillor Bill Clear, who lives near the apartment building said Gardai and emergency services did a "fantastic job" of evacuating the building.

He said: "The Gardai evacuated the building and went door to door banging on them telling people "get out, get out, get out".

"They did a fantastic job clearing the place out."

Mr Clear said the local community and area have been left "very shocked" at the tragedy.

He continued: "My heart goes out to the family that have lost their son. It is very tragic. The community and the area is very shocked at what happened.

"Thanks to the hero work of the Gardai and fire services serious tragedy was avoided."

In a statement this afternoon, a Garda spokesperson said: "Gardai and emergency services responded to a fire in a residential building in Naas, County Kildare in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 29th May 2024.

"Gardai evacuated the building and the fire was brought under control by Fire Services.

"One male was pronounced deceased; his body remains at the scene. The scene of the incident is currently preserved for a technical examination and enquiries are ongoing.

"Three members of An Garda Siochana received medical attention following the incident."
