"Their eyes can easily pop out and they have to be removed.

"Source — my brother is vet and says this happens all the time. Nasty eyeball hanging from a poor dog.

"They usually can't pop it back in so you end up with a pirate pug."

KEEP AN EYE OUT

Several Redditors weighed in on the dog disaster, with many attributing it to breeding pets.

"Confirmed. Pugs have been bred to have a flat face for aesthetic reasons," one wrote.

"People liked the way it looked, but the result is eye sockets too shallow to lock the eyes in.

"A sharp blow to the head often pops the eyes out. They also have sinus problems for the same reason."

"Why is it so hard to pop them back in if they can come out so easily?" one asked.

What is proptosis?

Proptosis is an abnormal bulging of the eye out of the socket, according to the Cleveland Clinic.

According to a 2019 study, proptosis is common in the pekingese and griffon dogs.

It's also a well-known issue for pugs and frenchies.

"Obviously its not ideal, but I know it can be done with humans and we’re a bit less genetically 'monstrofied.'"

"I don't know," the original poster replied.

"My brother said typically they just remove it because it's either difficult or cost prohibitive to pop it back in. Not sure."

"What a genetic monstrosity these breeders have created," a third said.

"Can't breathe, hip problems with age, low endurance, can't swim and their eyeballs pop out," yet another wrote.

"The s*** you get when some humans don't have any restrictions is really disturbing."

"This is why I have a pitbull, I can squeeze her 65-pound butt as much as I want," one more said.
