Jeremy Clarkson reveals he is taking ‘indefinite’ leave from work after being struck down with pneumonia on holiday
The ex-Top Gear host, 57, was admitted to hospital on Friday after being taken ill during a family break to Majorca
JEREMY Clarkson has revealed he will be off work “for quite some time” after being taken ill with severe pneumonia while on holiday in Spain.
The former Top Gear host, 57, was admitted to hospital on Friday during a family break to Majorca.
The Sun yesterday exclusively revealed Clarkson would be forced to take a period of respite to recover after being struck down by the dangerous bug.
And the motoring enthusiast has now announced he won’t be returning to work filming his new show The Grand Tour any time soon.
Writing on his website Drive Tribe, Clarkson said: “Thanks for all the good wishes. And to keep you up to date, I'll be out of action for quite some time apparently.
“It's really, really annoying because I've never had one day off work since I started in 1978.”
The star also joked that James May is the "only functioning member" of the Grand Tour team – with Richard Hammond still recovering from a car accident in June.
He posted a picture on Instagram showing May with his hair standing on end, writing: “The only functioning member of the Grand Tour team right now. God help us.”

Hammond, 47, was airlifted to hospital two months ago when the electric supercar he was driving through Switzerland crashed and burst into flames.
A spokeswoman for The Grand Tour said last night: "Jeremy Clarkson was admitted to hospital on Friday morning during a family holiday in Spain, and is being treated for pneumonia."
He yesterday posted a photo which showed medical tubing coming out of his arm on Instagram.
And in a message to his friend Jemima Goldsmith on Twitter said he was currently “in a wheelchair, connected up to tubes, in a hospital”.
