The hitmaker stood in the pit during the performance by his fellow West Lothian natives, Sean Finnigan and Conor Larkman.

A source said: "Lewis Capaldi was in the pit at the side of the stage supporting his pals in the band LF System on Saturday night."

An onlooker added: “Lewis looked relaxed and it was nice to see him enjoying himself after his recent health issues.

“LF System are another great act from Lewis’ patch and wanted to be there to cheer on his friends.”

It comes weeks after the singer was forced to cut his Glastonbury set short by six minutes as he battled with his voice.

Lewis was helped by adoring fans who sang his songs back to him as he struggled with his Tourette's.

On Friday night, Niall Horan paid tribute to his pal by encouraging thousands of fans to chant “we love you Lewis”.

The Irish heartthrob briefly interrupted his set to send a message to the fellow singer.

Niall said: “I know this is on television.

“Our good friend Mr Capaldi is watching. Shall we give him a little shout?”

Thousands then cheered “we love you Lewis” on the count of three.

Niall added during his TRNSMT set: “He can hear us. I know he will. He’s in Bathgate and he can hear us loud and clear. He’ll be back. He’ll be back.”

Niall opened his set with Nice To Meet Ya, then addressed fans. He said he had “never” seen a crowd “so up for it”.

He added: “You are absolutely mental. It's an absolute honour. It’s an absolute honour to be with all the lunatics."
