I’m A Celeb camp will be flooded with flesh-eating leeches after torrential storms

A wave of flesh-feasting leeches and monster earthworms will bring terror to the I’m a Celebrity set after huge downpours closed the camp.

Wet weather is set to hit the camp in the build-up to the show - meaning the revolting critters will make an appearance.

And heavy rain is expected in the opening days of filming earlier next month.

A spokesperson for the show confirmed that access to the camp was shut for 24 hours due to the torrential rain this week with workers preparing the camp locked out for safety reasons.

A local source said: “The camp was closed yesterday due to the extreme rain. No staff were allowed on site because it was too dangerous.

“They were told to get out of the area and totally downed tools.

“It meant a precious day of preparation was lost as crew faced a race against time to get the site ready.

“But they were all back on site today, so fingers crossed they can make up the lost time.”

An ITV spokesman said: "We closed site for 24 hours as a precautionary measure due to the inclement weather."

The show will air Sunday 6 November after being brought forward so as not to clash with the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

And forecasters are predicting heavy rain in the early part of the first week.

Bosses could be forced to limit trips to the famous jungle waterfall as the creek becomes infested with leeches following heavy rainfall.

I'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp presenter Joe Swash once revealed how the jungle waterhole becomes over-run with creepy-crawlies, saying: “It's got leeches everywhere in the water.”

Former contestants Kim Woodburn and Nicola McLean have both had run-ins with leeches in the past.
Nicola was horrified when one of the bloodsuckers clamped itself onto her boob in the camp.
Giant earthworms also make an appearance on the jungle floor during heavy rain when they are forced out of their flooded burrows.

But ITV bosses do employ a team of experts to sweep the camp - close to Australia’s Gold Coast - for deadly snakes and spiders.

The show's former medic, Dr Bob McCarron, once revealed two deadly funnel-web spiders, as well as poisonous snakes, were removed from the area in New South Wales where the reality show is filmed.

One snake was plucked from the drawbridge used by hosts Ant and Dec minutes before they began filming.
Dr Bob said: “We have removed some Rough Scaled snakes, they are highly venomous and usually very aggressive.
