TripAdvisor reveals world’s top 20 theme parks & water parks – and the UK has FOUR

THE world's best amusement parks and water parks have been named - and the UK has four in the top 20.

TripAdvisor has revealed its annual Travellers’ Choice “Best of the Best Things to Do” awards and Brits have a good selection of parks to choose from, without having to head abroad.

While Tenerife's Siam Park once again took the number one spot, the Milky Way Adventure Park in Clovelly, North Devon, was not far behind in fifth place.

Also representing the UK in the top 20 were Alton Towers in 13th place, Blackpool Pleasure Beach in 14th place and Tamworth's Drayton Manor Park in 17th place.

Overall winner Siam Park is a Thailand-themed waterpark on the Costa Adeje and has something for everyone — from baby and toddler pools in The Lost City to two beaches and a lazy river.

There is also a bundle of high-octane rides for adrenaline junkies — Tower Of Power being the star attraction.

The newish Coco Beach has a monster wave pool with hundreds of loungers, plus rides such as Patong Rapids and the Singha water-rollercoaster, on which you can hit speeds of up to 40mph while in a dinghy.

Meanwhile, the UK's top global entry Milky Way Adventure Park is located a few miles from the border with Cornwall, near an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and is home to the Cosmic Typhoon coaster.

Guests can also pilot a Cyber Scooter and shoot lasers on Ziggy's Blast Quest, take a ride on the Droid Destroyer Dodgems and leap around on the Jumping Jupiters.

Joining Siam Park and Devon's Milky Way Adventure Park in the world's top five were Puy du Fou in Vendee, France, as well as Beto Carrero World in Penha, Brazil and Puy du Fou Espana in Toledo, Spain.

UK theme park reveals launch date for brand new 'world's first' rollercoaster

The awards are based on TripAdvisor reviews over the past year, based on the quality and quantity of ratings.

The Milky Way Adventure Park, Alton Towers, Blackpool Pleasure beach and Drayton Manor Park also featured in the top 20 European theme and water parks, as did a fifth UK entry - Sundown Adventureland in Retford.

The theme park on the Yorkshire border, which is designed for the Under 10's and has 20 rides or attractions, was named the 16th best amusement or water park in Europe.

It features tractor rides, an animated farm, a musical petshop and a storybook village among other attractions.

Also making the list of the top European parks, were Djurs Sommerland in Denmark, as well as Katmandu Park in Magaluf, Spain.

The European top 20 was completed by Aquafollie, Caorle, Italy, Legoland, Denmark, Disneyland Paris's Walt Disney Studios Park and Fraispertuis City, both of which are in France and the simply named Water Park in Faliraki, Greece.
