Who is Matteo Guendouzi?

Guendouzi was born on April 14, 1999 in Poissy, which is situated on the outskirts of French capital Paris.

The 19-year-old has a Moroccan heritage and was approached by the Atlas Lions head coach Herve Renard.

But Guendouzi pledged his allegiances to his home country, currently playing at various youth levels for France.

The 5ft 10ins expressed his delight upon joining the Gunners, telling the club: "Arsenal have always been the team closest to my heart and a side I've wanted to join since I was a child."

Who does Guendouzi play for?

The Frenchman completed a sensational £7 million move to Arsenal on Wednesday from Lorient.

Guendouzi initially joined Paris Saint-Germain's academy in 2005, before moving to Les Merlus nine years later.

After starting his professional career in the B team, he made his Lorient debut on October 15, 2016 at the age of 17.

Following their relegation, Guendouzi found opportunities easier to come by in Ligue 2 last season, playing 21 times in all competitions.

What position does Guendouzi play?

The French youngster is a defensive midfielder, much in a similar mould to Barcelona star Sergio Busquets.

Guendouzi reads the game well, with strengths lying in his ability to intercept while turning defence into attack quickly.

His passing will already bring a smile to the Arsenal staff, with the 19-year-old finishing with 91.2% pass completion during his debut season in the French top-flight.

While he will not be expected to change the likes of fellow new signing Lucas Torreira, Mohamed Elneny and Granit Xhaka for a starting place, Guendouzi will eye minutes in cup competitions and spend the year developing.
