Roger Federer vs Rafa Nadal exhibition match in front of 80,000 fans at the Bernabeu mooted by Real Madrid president Florentino Perez

REAL MADRID president Florentino Perez wants to bring two of the biggest names in tennis to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos chief hopes a one-off clash between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal would obliterate the attendance record, currently held by Kim Clijsters and Serena Williams.

Marca report that Perez wants Real's 80,000-seater stadium to go down in tennis history, as they look to surpass the current highest of 35,681 - set back in 2010 in Brussels during a one-off match.

Yet, by the time the Spanish giants' chief gets his way, the record may already have been broken.

Nadal and Federer go head to head in charity match at Cape Town Stadium on February 7, 2020.

RECORD BREAKERS

The South African arena holds 55,000 with reports that tickets were sold out within ten minutes.

It is no surprise that the duo are so popular, holding 39 Grand Slam titles between them, the most recent being the US Open lifted by Spanish star Nadal.

While Cape Town may hold the record by the time Perez's vision becomes reality, Nadal would hardly turn down the chance to play at the home of Real Madrid with the 33-year-old an avid fan of 13-time European champions.

And it is not the first time the Spaniard has tried to play there, having been scheduled to face Novak Djokovic in 2012.

But a knee injury ruled him out of the exhibition match, while also missing the London Olympics that season.

Yet, this is not Spanish football's first involvement in tennis in recent times, as Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is helping to revamp the sport's Davis Cup tournament.
