Scott Parker lands new job as he returns to English football after being sacked by Club Brugge just 12 GAMES into role

SCOTT PARKER has been confirmed as the new Burnley manager.

The former England midfielder, 43, took over Belgian giants Club Brugge in December 2022.

But his side were hammered 5-1 at Benfica to result in a 7-1 aggregate thrashing in the Champions League last-16.

And that proved to be the final straw as Brugge sacked him just three months later with a record of just two wins from his 12 matches in charge.

But now he has returned to coaching as he looks to bring Burnley back up to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

Speaking after being announced by the club on Friday night, he said: "I’m really pleased to be here! I have been speaking with Burnley for some time now which has been a positive thing as I’ve now got a real feel for the people around the club.

"To be around the training ground now you start to get that feeling again and I can’t wait to get on the training field and start work!

"For us to be successful this year is the most important thing. We have to win and build a team the fans and club can be proud of.

"This team can represent every single one of them in that aspect and that’s the aim."

Parker’s first job in management was at Fulham in 2019 and he led them to Premier League promotion in 2020 via the play-offs.

Having overseen Fulham's immediate return to the Championship, he quit Craven Cottage a year later for Bournemouth, and guided them to automatic promotion during his first season at the helm.

However, despite that success, he was sacked by the Cherries just four games into the 2022/23 top-flight campaign after a 9-0 hammering at Liverpool.

Parker, who played for Charlton, Chelsea, Newcastle, West Ham, Tottenham and Fulham in his heyday, has been out of work since his Brugge axe.

Parker will take over from Vincent Kompany, who left for Bayern Munich despite suffering relegation from the Premier League last term.

His team will begin their promotion quest with a trip to Luton, who were also relegated last season, on August 12.
