ATLETICO MADRID are after Manchester City star Julian Alvarez.

And French giants Paris Saint-Germain could also move for the Argentina forward, 24.

Alvarez joined for just a bargain £14million in 2022.

City are in no rush to sell the ex-River Plate hero.

He has scored 36 goals in two full seasons at the Etihad but has been used in a variety of positions by Pep Guardiola.

He is believed to be keen on playing more regularly in his preferred position of central striker.

Argentine reports suggest an acceptable offer would be around £70m, a figure that looks unlikely to be hit this summer.

Atletico could ask to take him on loan — but that will NOT appeal to the champions.

Alvarez has already won the lot during his two years at the Etihad.During his first season he helped Man City win the Treble.

He has since added the Super Cup and Club World Cup before lifting the Premier League title again last month.

And in the midst of all that, Alvarez was part of the Argentina side that lifted the World Cup in December 2022, adding to the Copa America that they had won the year previous.

He revealed earlier this year that the gongs that he has won are split between Manchester and South America - but one day he will put them all together.

Alvarez explained: “Some are in Argentina and some are here with me in the UK.

“The World Cup one is in Argentina — in a special cabinet.”

Alvarez has had no issues adapting to life in England and has even brought his boyhood nickname with him to the Premier League.

He was dubbed La Arana — the Spider — as a young player because he looked like he had many legs, such was the speed he moved at.

And it made him smile when it is used as his name is announced after a goal when he is a sub at the Etihad.

His ‘Spider’ goal celebration has also been seen regularly by City fans over the past couple of seasons.

On its origin, he said: “It was out of nowhere.

“We were playing with my brothers and friends. One day they called me Arana — Spider — and now it sticks.

“City asked if I wanted to hear that. I said I’d rather it be in Spanish as Arana is my nickname, rather than Spider. I love that I’m still called it.”
