On that occasion Icardi flew from Paris to Milan to patch up things up with Wanda, but the TV star has now announced things are over.

In an Instagram post Wanda replied to a follower asking how long she has been married to Icardi, writing: "We were nine years."

Wanda, who is a judge on Argentina's 'Who is the mask?', then followed that up with a longer post but refused to reveal the reason behind the split.

She wrote: "It is very painful for me to live this moment.

"But given my exposure and the things that are transcending and the media speculation, it is preferable that they know about it from me.

"I have nothing more to clarify and I am not going to give any kind of detail about this separation.

"Please, I ask that you understand not only for me, but also for our children."

While Wanda has been filming a TV show in Argentina, Icardi is settling into a new club after joining Galatasaray on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.

They have not been able to see each other as a result and that sparked claims there was a strain on their relationship.

But Icardi hit back, sharing a message he received from Wanda on his Instagram account which read: "I want to hug you but you are far away."

He followed that up with a post of his own, writing: "Good night, I'm going to sleep with such a nice message from my wife. I love you, there are only a few days left."

Icardi also denied the split when asked by a fan, although that was before Wanda's big announcement.

He had said: "As I've been asked a thousand times already, let's clear it up from the start…"

"We are not separated. She is finishing this work commitment that she took in Argentina and in a few days we will have her back home, that both the children and I miss her very much.

"Obviously, gossip shows and shows sell them lies and more than two public figures like us."

The pair's children Francesca, seven, and Isabella, five, have been staying with Icardi and Wanda also spoke of how much she misses them.

In yet another Instagram post she wrote: "I see them happy and following the program that is for the whole family. They are always with me."
