Her husband Vice Admiral Sir Tim Laurence today said: "I would like to extend my warmest thanks to all the team at Southmead Hospital for their care, expertise and kindness during my wife’s short stay."

Anne was conscious on Monday, but is said to have suffered memory loss after sustaining the injury a day earlier.

An Air Ambulance was deployed to the scene, but was not required after treatment at the scene.

During her time in hospital, the princess was forced to cancel her upcoming engagements - including a trip to Canada for a planned tour and an appearance at the State Banquet.

In a statement released earlier this week, Buckingham Palace said: "Her Royal Highness is receiving appropriate expert care. No further details are being shared at this stage.

"Her Royal Highness will remain in Southmead Hospital unless or until her medical team advise otherwise.

Princess Anne will miss a week of engagements but she’s made of extremely stern stuff - she’ll be back, expert says

"On doctors' advice, Her Royal Highness's engagements for the week ahead will be postponed.

"Her Royal Highness sends her apologies to any who may be inconvenienced or disappointed as a result."

Dubbed the King’s right-hand woman, she is seen as the hardest-working royal and known for her dedication to duty and no-nonsense approach.

Sir Tim and Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall visited her bedside separately on Tuesday, with Sir Tim also returning on Wednesday.

He said at the time the princess was “doing fine, slow but sure” and that he had taken her a “few little treats from home”.
