How many children does Jacob Rees-Mogg have?

Sir Jacob William Rees-Mogg has held several of the most senior government posts, including secretary of state for business, energy and industrial strategy (September to October 2022), minister of state (February to September 2022), lord president of the council and leader of the House of Commons (July 2019 to February 2022).

His father was a journalist and former Editor of The Times from January 1967 to March 1981.

Mr Rees-Mogg's sister is also a journalist and former member of the European Parliament.

The long-time Boris Johnson ally is well known for his aristocratic accent and double-breasted suit.

Jacob attended elite public school Eton College before going on to study at Oxford University.

He then had a lucrative career in finance, helping to establish investment management firm Somerset Capital Management in 2007.

He also found the time to have a large family, and has six children (five sons, and one daughter) with his wife Helena de Chair.

The couple named most of their children after medieval saints.

Their sixth child is called Sixtus, which is a Roman name meaning "polished", as well as being the name of a Pope and Saint.

His full name is Sixtus Dominic Boniface Christopher.

Sixtus' eldest sibling is Peter Theodore Alphege, who was born in 2007.

Their only daughter Mary Anne Charlotte Emma came along a year later followed by Thomas Wentworth Somerset Dunstan in 2010 and Anselm Charles Fitzwilliam in 2012.

Their fifth child, Alfred Wulfric Leyson Pius, was born in February 2016.

The MP has previously joked about his desire to have enough children to make up a full cricket team.

Following the birth of his most recent child Sixtus in July 2017, Mr Rees-Mogg said: "Thank you so much for the almost overwhelming number of kind messages, Helena and I are deeply grateful.

"Thanks also to Mr Keith Duncan and the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital for the safe delivery of all six."

Who is Jacob Rees-Mogg's wife?

Rees-Mogg is married to Helena de Chair, who is the mother of his six children.

Her full name is Helena Anne Beatrix Wentworth Fitzwilliam de Chair.

Helena was a close friend of the Conservative MP's sister and they have known each other since they were young.

De Chair, born in 1977, is the daughter of poet and aristocrat Somerset de Chair and Lady Juliet Tadgell.

Her mother Lady Tadgell is heir to the Fitzwilliam fortune, with a £45million estimated net worth, which de Chair stands to inherit as her only surviving child, the Spectator reported in 2016.

When Helena comes into her inheritance, the Rees-Moggs’ net worth will be in excess of £100million, and possibly as high as £150million.

The couple were dating for a year before their engagement — with Lady Juliet gaving Mr Rees-Mogg her blessing — and they tied the knot in 2007.

Helena went to the University of Bristol and in 2019 was reported to be a writer for an oil industry trade magazine.
