Forget the weasel riding a woodpecker… this octopus clinging to a dolphin is the most bizarre animal ‘joyriding’ pic we’ve seen
World stunned by extraordinary spectacle of sea creature hitching ride
THIS octopus is in a very sticky situation – trying to cling to a dolphin so it does not get eaten.
Pictures show the dolphin breaching the surface of the river with a high dive, trying to dislodge its tasty meal from its back.
Knowing it is not fast enough to out swim the dolphin, the crafty octopus' remaining survival tactic is to cling to the predator's back.
But it looks like its survival fight is also a fun ride.
The rare sight was captured by Australian wildlife photographer Jodie Lowe on the Hastings River in Port Macquarie, Australia on March 12, but the amazing image has just been publicly revealed.
Jodie said: "We had an interesting encounter with a bottlenose dolphin that had an Octopus stuck to her.
"The dolphin leapt out of the water to try and dislodge the octopus so that she could eat it.
"The octopus wasn't trying to harm the dolphin in anyway.
"It was only trying to escape."

Jodie added: "My favourite image would have to be the pic where the dolphin is completely airborne and you can also see the octopus on her.
"I was pretty excited when all of this was happening because it's not something you're going to see every day.
“I was just glad I was on the boat that day to get the shots of such a rare event."
The extraordinary photograph comes after Martin Le-May’s snapped a green woodpecker flying with a weasel on its back.
