Stores stocked up for barbecues and pubs were preparing to pull an extra seven million pints on the year’s hottest days so far.
Seaside resorts were already busy yesterday and temperatures were forecast to topple Thursday’s high of 24.6C (76F).
With May’s mini-heatwave hotting up, the best of the weather will be across the South East.
Tesco said: “Britain will be going BBQ crazy this weekend, especially after months of rain.”

The British Beer and Pub Association said it was “crucial” after the challenging winter months.
Deputy Chief Meteorologist Dan Harris said: “Heavy showers and thunderstorms are likely to break out on Sunday morning, most likely across the south west.
"They’ll track steadily north through the afternoon whilst probably growing into larger clumps of rain before clearing Scotland overnight.
“Some intense downpours are possible in a few places, giving up to 1.1in (30mm) in less than hour and perhaps 2in (40-50mm) over two to three hours.
