Who is Liz Golyar?

Shanna "Liz" Golyar is from Omaha, Nebraska. She met Dave Kroupa in 2012 through a dating app.

Kroupa claims he informed the mother of two that he was only interested in a casual relationship.

According to the case, Golyar met Cari Farver in the hallway of Kroupa's apartment building when the former had arrived unannounced to pick up her belongings.

What happened to Cari Farver?

Cari Farver was a 37-year-old single mother from Macedonia, Iowa. She was in a casual relationship with Kroupa before she disappeared.

She first caught Kroupa's attention at the auto repair shop where he worked in 2012.

The two connected on a dating app and later went on a date. The couple continued to see each other for a few weeks after that.

She was last seen on November 13, 2012, by Kroupa when she left his apartment and went to work.

A few hours later, Kroupa received a text message from Cari asking to move in together, despite the two wanting to remain casual.

After he rejected Cari's request, he received an angry response saying, "Fine. I hate you. I'm dating someone else. I don't want to see you anymore. Go away."

No one saw Cari again, but Kroupa continued to receive texts from her years later, ranging from stalking to threats.

At the time, Golyar claimed she received similar texts from Cari, warning her to leave Kroupa alone.

According to ABC, Cari's mother received a text from her saying that she had moved to Kansas City.

However, her mother grew worried when Cari missed her son's 15th birthday and her father's funeral, and called the police.

By 2015, no one had seen Cari for two and a half years.

Where is Liz Golyar now?

Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office investigator Ryan Avis and sergeant Jim Doty were intrigued by the case and volunteered to investigate it.

According to Netflix, the two re-examined evidence and were eventually able to determine that none of the stalking and threatening texts were from Cari.

They discovered that Golyar had murdered Farver in 2012 and held onto her phone to pose as Cari to make it seem like Cari was victimizing her.

She even went as far as burning down her own house with her pets inside and shooting herself in the leg, per ABC.

When investigators were given access to Golyar's phone, they found a photo of Cari's car, logins to several fake email accounts, and even a picture of Cari's deceased body.

Golyar was charged with the first-degree murder of Cari Farver. She was found guilty on August 15, 2017.
