Four things we LOVE about Apple’s iPhone 7 and one we HATE

WHEN Usain Bolt won three golds at the Brazil Olympics, I couldn't help but think he looked a wee bit disappointed.

Yes, he'd proven once and for all that he's the greatest runner on the planet.

But the great man didn't appeared 100% satisfied because he failed to do one important thing: break a world record.

Which is sort of how I feel about the iPhone 7 I've been using for a few weeks.

It's by far the best phone on the market just now - and therefore the greatest mobile in the history of humanity.

Apple's new gizmo is, well, a lot like the last one: pretty much perfect.

For some reason, though, when it comes to Apple I feel like perfection isn't enough.

We techies have come to expect scorching innovation from the tech giant, so that when it does what everyone expects and releases the best phone in the world, it just somehow doesn't seem to satisfy our iPPetite.

I admit to having unreasonable expectations of the firm which brought us the iPad and the iPod.

So whilst I'd give the iPhone 7 a full ten out of ten rating, I'd still like to see more.

An impossible demand, for sure. But there it is. Let's have some magic when the next one is released please Apple!

Until then, I will be very happy with my iPhone 7 Plus.

Here's what I like about the latest smartphone.

The Home Button

Apple removed the clicky button you press to open the phone, using some mysterious alchemy to replace it with a system which feels as if you're clicking a mouse - even though you're not.

It's hard to explain, but this innovation feels much more durable than previous versions and somehow more satisfying.

Apple has pressed all my buttons with this innovation.

The Camera

My iPhone 7 Plus comes with a 12MP wide-angle and telephoto lens which take AMAZING pictures.

There's also more to come, as Apple is set to introduce a feature allowing you to take stylish shots with arty "background blur".

I've also come to love the Live Pictures feature, which records a few seconds of film with every snap.

Haptic feedback

This is the feedback which occurs as you use the phone, which is quite subtle but really rather enjoyable.

You can press "into" the screen to activate secondary functions, which never fails to amaze me because it feels as if you're really squeezing a section of the screen down.

The haptic feedback is a small touch, but it summons a bit of that Apple magic we all know and love.

Waterproofing

We dropped an iPhone 7 down the toilet and it survived to tell the tale.

So whilst this is a function you'll probably never have to test out, it's just good that it's there.

It's good to know your bambino can flush your expensive blower down the bog without ruining it.

And here's one thing I HATE about the iPhone 7:

The Headphone Socket

Every day I go to plug in my headphones and then harrumph as I remember I have to pull out an adaptor.

Yes, the adaptor is a marvel of engineering, containing a micro size version of a "digital to audio" converters chip that probably would have been the size of a bus just 30 years ago.

But it really irks me, even though I know one day it will work out for the best.

The new Lightning socket will offer better audio quality, which is really important this music-loving hack.

At the moment, though, I'm finding it hard to see this bright future as I swear at my smartphone.

Grrrrrrrrr.

Still, it doesn't stop me loving my iPhone 7 Plus. It's yet another victory for Apple and still the greatest smartphone in the world. Bravo.
