HAUNTING audio of a man's final words before he was killed during the 9/11 attacks has resurfaced as people remember the victims 15 years on.

Kevin Cosgrove, 46, who was Vice President of brokerage firm Aon Corp, called the emergency services when he became trapped on the 105th floor of the South Tower.

During the call, Kevin describes the terrifying smoke as the operator tries to locate him and give his details.

He says: "Right. Lady, there's two of us in this office. We're not ready to die but it's getting bad."

Trying to keep things calm – and not knowing the gravity of the situation herself – the operator explains: "I understand." Panicking, Kevin replies: "Oh please hurry."

Then, the operator connects the call to a member of the fire department, who confirms his location and tries to reassure him that they're on their way.

Devastatingly, Kevin says:  "Doesn't feel like it man. I got young kids."

As time passes, it's clear from Kevin's voice that the fire is getting worse, as he says:

"I know you got a lot of people in the building but we are on the top. Smoke rises too. We are on the floor. We're in the window. I can barely breathe now. I can't see."

Heartrendingly, the father-of-three adds: "My wife thinks I'm all right, I called and said I was leaving the building and that I was fine, and then bang!"

The operator responds: "Okay. Just try to hang in there. I'm going to stay with you."

In the closing seconds of the call, Kevin, unaware that this is his final conversation, says: "It's really bad. It's black. It's arid. We're young men. We're not ready to die.

"There's three of us in here. We're overlooking the financial centre. Three of us. Two broken windows."

Then, at 9:58am, a crash can be heard, followed by Kevin's shouts of, "Oh god, no!" - before the call cuts out completely.

The heartbreaking recording was used during the prosecution of Zacarias Moussaoui, who pleaded guilty to conspiring to kill US citizens as part of the 9/11 attacks - and made headlines around the world as a result of its chilling content.
