Here is how to get the best discounts — even on leading brands.
- Shop the sales year round. Don’t just stick to the normal times retailers advertise sales, such as summer, Black Friday and Boxing Day. Aggregator websites will tell you which stores have sales on right now.
- Find bargains after a holiday event. With Valentine’s Day coming up, retailers hike the price of smart jewellery and expensive watches, as demand is high. But on February 15, prices will be slashed, so wait to buy. This is true for swimsuits after summer, party dresses after Christmas and so on.
- Payday voucher codes. Retailers know Brits are skint at the end of the month, so they tempt them to spend with payday codes. This can take ten to 20 per cent off, so hang on for the last day of the month to buy.
- Use partner offers. Banks and mobile networks often partner with brands and retailers to offer special discounts to customers. Rewards apps like O2’s Priority and Three’s Wuntu give customers savings on clothes, restaurants and event tickets.
- Stay on top of price drops. Use price-tracking tools such as lovethesales.com’s “preview sales mode” to get email notifications when items are reduced.
- Be social. Money-saving groups on Facebook are a great way to find deals you didn’t know about. Check Sun Savers’ page for crowdsourced deals.
