Here are his tips for making the most of your cash.
- Switch your bank for a better deal. My pick right now is Natwest’s Reward Account. There is a monthly £2 fee but you get a £125 bonus and three-per-cent cashback on bills such as council tax and energy.
- Everyone knows they should switch their gas and electricity provider, so make this the month you look into it. It takes just ten minutes and you can save up to £300 a year. Big money for a small amount of work.
- Check how many points you have stockpiled on loyalty cards and search your drawers for any unused cards. Shoppers lose hundreds of pounds every year by letting them expire.
- Google is your friend for finding discounts. Just take a moment to search for whatever it is you are going to spend money on and you could find a lower price, voucher code or cheaper alternative. A minute well spent.
- Do not forget cashback when you shop. You can earn money back on almost everything, adding hundreds of pounds to your budget over the year. Topcashback.co.uk and Quidco.com are the main websites to register with. Look out for incentives for signing up such as a bonus £10 reward.
