Fresh figures from eBay show 80million unwanted pressies will be resold over the holiday.

Tomorrow is set to be the biggest sales day.

With so many brand-new goodies up for grabs online, now is the perfect time to pick up a bargain.

So here is our simple guide to selling and buying on eBay.

How to sell

❶ Think like the buyer. List your items with words you would use to search for the item you are selling. Take clear, appealing pictures which show off the product.

❷ If you know the price you want, list it as fixed. If you’re unsure what you want, use the auction option. A seven-day auction that ends on Sunday is the most popular format.

❸ Offer free shipping to tempt more buyers. But ensure your costs are covered when you sell.

❹ Use eBay delivery. The firm’s service offers competitive prices on tracked services that can be dropped off at thousands of locations nationwide or even sent abroad.

How to buy

❶ Do not search with just the usual terms. Try misspellings of words to throw up items where the seller has made a blunder and so has far fewer bids.

❷ Seen an item you like but the price is too high? Use the “make an offer” tool or contact the seller and see if you can barter.

❸ Put items on your “watch list”, to easily compare prices.

❹ Bidding on an auction item? Wait until the last minute to swoop in and win.
