A sign outside the store at the Erril Retail Park site in Plympton, Plymouth, says it will open to shoppers on Saturday, October 19 this year.

Commenting on a Facebook post that shared the news one person wrote: "Book the day off, we have plans," while another added: "Great."

The store is recruiting staff ahead of its launch.

Currently, the closest Home Bargains is across the Tamar Bridge at the Carkeel Gateway in Saltash.

There is also another store in Kingsteignton.

The shop is also advertising job roles, with one advert currently live for a full-time "team leader' role with a £29,079 salary.

Home Bargains owner TJ Morris said that it had such a successful year in 2023 that it is able to open hundreds of more branches across the country, including Plymouth.

BusinessLive reported that TJ said turnover growth "was achieved by the opening of additional retail outlets during the year, shop re-sites and an increased contribution from existing stores."

It added: "The company intends to increase the number of retail outlets in operation in the year to 30 June 2024, and to eventually have between 800 and 1,000 retail outlets open."

It comes as a major discounter is set to open hundreds of new stores in a boost for the high street and shoppers.

Home Bargains has said it wants to add roughly 400 branches to its shop tally as part of major expansion plans.

The retailer, which was running 594 locations as of last June, said it wanted to "eventually have between 800 and 1,000 retail outlets open".

The Sun approached Home Bargains to find out the date it plans on reaching its store target but the retailer declined to comment.

In the accounts filed to Companies House earlier this week, Home Bargains also reported a 10% rise in sales to around £3.7billion in the year to June 2023 compared to the same month in 2022.

Its pre-tax profits increased by over 12% from £288million to £324million.
