Tesco announced tens of millions of vouchers - which can go towards your weekly food shop - were due to expire before June.

Shoppers receive vouchers after they buy items from Tesco and can quickly build up a huge pile of vouchers on their online accounts.

Shoppers can use Clubcard vouchers in-store and online to save money on their Tesco shop.

If you decide to use your vouchers for your Tesco shop, every 150 points can be exchanged to the value of £1.50.

Clubcard points can also be used to pay for fuel at their petrol stations or to secure a new deal with Tesco Mobile.

Savvy shoppers can also snap up deals online on their Clubcard scheme page.

Higher value deals can be found by exchanging vouchers for double or triple their value with 100 Clubcard Reward Partners.

Some reward partners include Disney+ and the RAC.

With millions of the vouchers expiring tonight believed to be rewards related to days out or places to eat out.

PizzaExpressAlton Towers Resort and Hotels.com are among the participating partners in the reward scheme.

Savvy shopper reveals the secret way to get epic discounts and hundreds of points for ‘no reason at all’ in Tesco

Ashwin Prasad, Tesco's chief commercial officer, said: "I would encourage all our Clubcard holders to check to see if they have a reward code to use up, because we don’t want anyone to miss out."

Tesco has emailed customers asking if they have codes that are due to expire.

The MoneySavingExpert.com (MSE) team spotted the potential catastrophe of missed deals.

The said: "If you've got a Tesco Clubcard, check when your vouchers are due to expire as you've only days left to spend or extend nearly £17million worth before they run out on Friday, May 31.

"In addition, more than £27million in 'Reward Partner' codes – vouchers that have been exchanged to spend at various third-party retailers – are set to expire over the next two weeks."

How to extend your vouchers

Clubcard vouchers are valid for two years, but if you want to extend them there is a clever way to do it.

You can either check online or on the app to see when your vouchers expire and take action.

You can then either make a small purchase on the Tesco Clubcard Rewards page as the remaining balance will be transferred back as points.

You can swap your points for vouchers, which means they will be valid for two years.

Pick something with a low value, such as a 50p restaurant voucher.

How to bag a bargain

SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain...

Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.

Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.

Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.

Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.

Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.

When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.

Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.

Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.

And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.
