Prankster sticks fake plug socket on the wall of an airport and films the furious – and hilarious – reactions of travellers desperate to use it

THIS is the genius airport prank which viewers found funny and cruel in equal measure.

Most people hate the whole airport experience but, for some jokers, it was the perfect place to try out something truly fiendish.

Twitter user @JustBasicDave shared updates from the departure lounge at Miami International Airport, where he was waiting to catch a flight to London.

To liven up his wait, the prankster decided to trick his fellow passengers by placing a fake plug socket on a pillar in the lounge.

Using stickers which look like wall outlets, the Twitter prankster managed to fool unsuspecting passersby into thinking they could charge their mobiles in the useless sockets.

In videos uploaded to Twitter, unsuspecting passengers can be seen trying to slot their chargers into the phoney socket, only to realise a moment too late that the plugs are stuck on.

In one clip, a woman strolls up to the sticker and tries to slot her charger in, prompting her to look visibly confused when she gets close enough to realise the socket is a fake.

Another video shows a woman trying to use the fake socket she's sat next to, before laughing and looking around with embarrassment when she realises she's been pranked.

Replying to his video, @JustBasicDave joked: "She didn't find it amusing when she knew I did it."

Whilst many people thought the trick was hilarious, some joked that an airport is not the place to get people's hopes up like that.

One wrote: "Pure evil," whilst another described the prank as, "Funny. But messed up."

Others found it "cruelly amusing" and "something only people with a warped sense of humour can appreciate".

And it seems Dave isn't the only one finding the "fake plug" trick hilarious.

Instagram prankster Kim_Pao_pranks has also pulled the wind-up.

Of course, this isn't the first "cruel" joke to cause a stir among viewers.

Earlier this year, we told how one YouTube prankster was slammed by concerned commenters after he laced his girlfriend's thong with the extract of the world's hottest chilli.

We also revealed how a pair of foul-mouthed parents played one of the cruellest tricks imaginable on their young son, leaving the poor boy in floods of tears.
