The shocking reason why so many women are having affairs now – and the type of men they’re hooking up with

Meanwhile a lack of intimacy in marriages has also led to women playing away.

The findings are revealed in a new book called Untrue: Why Nearly Everything We Believe About Women And Lust And Infidelity Is Untrue.

In the book, by author Wednesday Martin, it is revealed infidelity among women has soared since 1990.

Wednesday spoke to women who are considering cheating.

She told the Daily Mail: "For many, being unfaithful in whatever form is an unthinkable betrayal of marriage vows, yet in some ways these women are not exceptional."

She continued: "Their problems — unfulfilling routine sex, or no intimacy at all with husbands or long-term partners, or a craving for sexual variety and novelty — are far from unique.

"Crucially, none of these women wanted to give up on their marriages or loved their husbands any less.

"They were tempted to look elsewhere for sexual fulfilment when perhaps, in the past, they would have just put up with it."

But the type of men they are cheating with is quite specific - attractive, but not emotionally needy.

Sociologist Dr Alicia Walker said this was because women were increasingly putting their needs first.

Wednesday, confirming this, spoke to one woman, called Heather, 43, who told how she cheated because her partner didn't satisfy her sexually.

"I try to find men who won't be clingy an just want great sex," the Mail reported.

It's also suggested technology is helping women cheat - with social media platforms making it easier to meet men.

It’s been revealed there are SEVEN types of break-ups – so which ones have you experienced?

And it’s official – you’re more likely to cheat in summer and this is why.

Plus it’s been revealed men are more likely to forgive cheating than woman
