Orlando Pirates have finally arrived in Spain where they’re expected to step up their pre-season ahead of the new season.

Pirates are in Spain for the second pre-season in a row, after enjoying a fruitful spell last time around.

With seven players having been released so far this window, this will be a different looking Pirates side. The first two to make way were Souiabou Marou as well as Fortune Makaringe. They were then followed by Siyabonga Mpontshane, Richard Ofori, Kermit Erasmus and Thabang Monare. The latest player leave, however, was fan favourite Vincent Pule

Pirates released two goalkeepers

In the list, two goalkeepers feature and naturally that means they will have to sign at least one goalkeeper. Last season, the hot topic was Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse. According to sources, that ship has now firmly sailed as Pirates look elsewhere.

“There is no move to Orlando Pirates that is being considered for Mamelodi Sundowns keeper Reyaad Pieterse in this winter transfer window, Siya sources have indicated.” Wrote Soccer-Laduma.

The source then goes on to detail how Pirates have moved on from Pieterse.

“Despite the two guys (Mpontshane and Ofori) leaving, Pirates still have two good goalkeepers in the guys that have been playing, Sipho Chaine and (Melusi) Buthelezi. Also, there are good youngsters that have been coming through the ranks, including the new signings (Bayanda Thabethe and Ethan Visagie), and therefore there is no pressure about that department,” said the source.

No longer interested in Pieterse?

Pirates have also been heavily linked with Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. Those links have also since died down, with the club seemingly trusting their current goalkeeping department. They already have two players who consider themselves number ones in Sipho Chaine and Melusi Buthelelzi. Furthermore, the likes of Siphamanadla Gumede, who returns from loan, would like to impress Jose Riveiro in pre-season.

With that being said, there seems to be no space for Pieterse at Pirates. maBhakaniya, does your club need to sign another goalkeeper? Feel free to leave a comment below.
