New Kaizer Chiefs manager Nasreddine Nabi has wasted no time laying down his transfer plans for the Glamour Boys. He’s requested that the board pursues deals for Fiston Mayele and Tumisang Orebonye.

Nabi wants two brand new strikers at Kaizer Chiefs

Fiston Mayele was on the Chiefs shortlist at the tail-end of 2022, and now it appears they’ve reignited their interest. He scored 15 goals and bagged five assists in 34 appearances across all competitions last term. Popular journalist Micky Jnr reports as much on his X account. Mayele is a player Nabi knows well after they worked together at Young Africans, but the 30-year-old Congolese striker isn’t the only one.

Nabi still wants Orebonye

28-year-old Tumisang Orebonye also featured under Nabi at FAR Rabat, scoring four times in 15 league appearances in the recently-completed campaign. He’s got 40 caps for the Botswana National team alongside Thatayaone Ditlhokwe. The player will also cost absolutely nothing as he joined FAR on a six-month loan deal. If he hits the ground running and puts the ball in the net, Amakhosi fans will start loving Nabi for his talent ID abilities.

The new Itumeleng Khune?

At the other end of the pitch, 21-year-old Bontle Molefe, 16 years Itumeleng Khune’s junior, is ready to step up. He’s had to endure a long wait for this moment after sustaining a serious wrist injury in 2023 which ruled him out of DStv Diski Challenge action for most of an entire season. Injuries aren’t an ideal experience for any player but they certainly develop mental strength and the ability to never take one’s fitness for granted. 2024 might be his year. Molefe will challenge Bruce Bvuma and Brandon Petersen for the Number One spot between the sticks. If Molefe successfully comes through the ranks, battles serious injuries and then replaces an outgoing club legend, it would be a fairytale story.

Will Chiefs get what they want in this winter window? Are Mayele and Orebonye the missing pieces in their attacking puzzle?
