Over the past few days, fans have been met with an on-screen message warning them that "Viaplay via Roku is closing on February 29”.

The app was short-lived on the Roku platform, having launched on in April 2023.

What happens to my Viaplay subscription?

Those who have a paid subscription to Viaplay, via Roku, will have their accounts automatically cancelled.

However, those with a monthly subscription may lose access to Viaplay before January 29.

Viaplay will be terminating subscriptions in tune with a customers billing cycle.

This means if a subscription typically renews on the 20th of each month, the customer will lose access to Viaplay on that date.

Customers with annual subscriptions will receive refunds for the remaining days of their membership.

Viaplay Xtra - previously known as Freesports - disappeared from telly boxes on January 25, 2024.

The channel covered more than 1000 sporting events a year across association football, combat sports, ice hockey, tennis, rugby league, rugby union, basketball, cricket, and snooker.

The disappearance forms part of the Viaplay Group's departure from the UK, whereby all three of its channels will be returned back to Premier Sports branding.

Embattled Viaplay bought Premier Sports, along with its suite of sports rights, in 2022.

This meant the Premier Sports 1, Premier Sports 2 and Freesports channels were rebranded under the Viaplay moniker.

Premier Sports is set to make a comeback early this year.

Beyond sports, Viaplay was also home to films and TV series.

Where else can I watch Viaplay?

Viaplay content hasn't disappeared forever, yet.

The app remains available on several other platforms for now, including Sky, Virgin Media, Amazon Prime. and Samsung.

However, Viaplay will vanish from all platforms later this year - so enjoy it while you can.
