Watch as Ianis Hagi has moment to forget as on-loan Rangers star ‘aims for the MOON’ with horror penalty miss

There have been calls for Hagi to return to Ibrox in January but he had a major moment to forget in Spain

RANGERS' summer rebuild saw a lot of players leave the club as well as come in.

And one departure was Ianis Hagi who left on loan to join La Liga outfit Alaves.

The Romanian international first joined Rangers from Genk on a six month loan back in 2020 before the deal was made permanent the following summer.

He won the SPFL Young Player of the Year award in the 20/21 season but missed half of the following season through injury.

Since his return game time has been hard to come by so he opted for a move to the Spanish side.

But his woes have continued with Alaves after his penalty miss against Almeria this weekend was labelled as a 'shot at the moon.'

Hagi has featured nine times for his new club as they sit 17th in the league.

On a run of seven league games without a win, Alaves were desperate for a victory to edge them clearer of the relegation zone.

And Hagi had the chance to give his side the lead as they were awarded a penalty in the last minute of the first half.

But his attempt went VERY high and VERY wide and fans were quick to show their frustration at the play maker's shot.

One fan said: "Ianis Hagi misses his penalty against Almeria and aims for the moon."

Another said: "A little more and he takes the ball out of the stadium."

A third added: "Watched football over 30 years and that was one of the worst shots from the spot I have ever seen."

Thankfully for Hagi, his blushes were spared as Aleksandar Sedlar struck late on to secure a crucial 1-0 victory for Alaves.

Hagi's side face a trip to Barcelona in their next league outing as the pressure ramps up.

He will return to Rangers in June next year where he will have two years left on his deal as he tries to reignite his career.
