First picture of biker who died in hospital following horror crash near Oban

He was taken to hospital in Glasgow but succumbed to his injuries

A MOTORCYCLIST who tragically died in a horror crash on a busy Scots road has been named by cops.

James Maclean died in hospital after his black Kawasaki ZX1400 motorcycle was involved in a collision with a white Toyota Hilux on the A85, near Dunollie Road, in Oban on Thursday.

Emergency services raced to the scene after the alarm was raised at around 5.35pm.

The 63-year-old, of Oban, was taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow where he died of his injuries on Friday.

Mr Maclean's family paid tribute to him in a statement released through Police Scotland.

It read: “Jim will be missed by his family and everyone who knew him. We wish to pass on our thanks to everyone who assisted at the scene and to the emergency services who attended.

"We ask for our privacy to be respected at this difficult time for all."

The driver of the Toyota was not injured.

The road was closed to allow for investigations to be carried out and was re-opened at around 11.40pm.

Cops last night said they are appealing for information about the crash in Argyll and Bute.

Sergeant Scott Miller said: "Our thoughts are with the family of Mr Maclean and they have asked for their privacy to be respected.

"Inquiries continue to establish the full circumstances and anyone who has not yet spoken to officers but can assist with our investigation is asked to get in touch."
