After four people were left dead at a Kentucky pool party, police officers have identified the shooter who then turned the gun on himself after the mass shooting.

On Saturday, police were called to a Florence house around 3 a.m. where police found four people dead and three taken to the Intensive Care Unit. The home belonged to the Parrett family where a birthday pool party was taking place the night before.

A neighbor who spoke to WCPO, an ABC affiliate, said they heard what they thought were fireworks around 2:15 in the morning. The four victims have been identified as Melissa Parrett, 44, Delaney Eary, 19, Shane Miller, 20 and Hayden Rybicki, 20, while the three victims in ICU have yet to be named.

The shooting suspect, now identified as 21-year-old Chase Garvey, fled the scene and crashed his car into a ditch after a police chase. Officers found him dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. According to Channel3 NOW, sources claim that Eary was Garvey's ex-girlfriend.

At a press conference held on Saturday afternoon, Florence Police Chief Jeff Mallery stated that Garvey was not invited to the party but showed up anyway. He added that an initial investigation concluded that Garvey acted alone.

"We’ve never dealt with this before. I know it’s going on throughout the nation, but this is the first time that we’ve had a mass shooting in Florence," Mallery said, "It is very emotional. And my emotions are for the victims, their families, the officers that responded and everybody that was touched by this situation."

The 21-year-old was known to police previously, as in 2021 he was arrested and charged with the rape of a 13-year-old girl. A report at the time by Fox19 claimed that the victim told police she was messaging him on Snapchat a few weeks prior.

She allegedly told him her age and when they met at an apartment complex inside his car, he held down her hands and attacked her. In a later police interview, he admitted to having sex with her.

In April 2023, he was sentenced to five years probation after he pleaded guilty to the unlawful transaction with a minor in the second degree.
