Sometimes a star’s style perfectly matches their zodiac sign. At the 2024 Met Gala, for example, Ayo Edebiri’s floral halterneck dress was clearly a Libra, just like her, pairing a classically romantic silhouette with whimsical detailing that nodded to the “Garden of Time” theme. But that synergy doesn’t always occur. Let’s not forget that celebrities typically don’t dress themselves, and they vary in the degree to which they delegate their sartorial decisions to teams of stylists, makeup artists, and designers. Simply put, there are a lot of cooks in the kitchen, so it’s not surprising when someone’s red-carpet fashion doesn’t align with their astrological chart. Take Jonathan Groff, an Aries, and by all accounts a boldly hilarious individual. But his Met Gala look? Total Capricorn: all business, with only light gestures toward the theme. But that’s OK! Even fashion’s biggest night needs some Capricorn energy to keep everybody grounded.

Which Met Gala look best describes you based on your zodiac sign? Read on to find out.

Aries: Charli XCX

A nipple-forward gown made from ripped up vintage T-shirts at the highest fashion event of the year? Gorgeous, on theme, and also looking like she just got busy in the back of a car on the way to the event? The fire sign realness is genuine, as Charli XCX herself is a Leo, but this look is all Aries.

Taurus: Cynthia Erivo

Dimitrios Kambouris

The basic personality template of Taurus is dark, but sharp and sparkly, then toss a handful of springtime-appropriate flower petals on top. A bald head, nose ring, and surprisingly whimsical dragonfly decal is just a bonus to emphasize the earth-sign groundedness that Capricorn Cynthia Erivo brings to this look. Blossoms springing from the depth of cold winter desecration is the visual representation of Taurus.

Gemini: J. Harrison Ghee

Jamie McCarthy

This is the look of a Gemini who knows that lucky planet Jupiter is on its way to join their sign in a couple of weeks. Here is an air sign who is turning up and turning out to shame every fire sign on the red carpet, using their braid antennae to hoover up all of the gossip in the vicinity, and then fluttering away freely on their butterfly wings. This is a Gemini in their true, unfettered form.

Cancer: Colman Domingo

Gilbert Flores

We all looked forward to seeing the look Colman Domingo would unleash on tonight’s Met Gala red carpet, and not a damn one of us were disappointed. White coat and cape, black ruffling, and a beautiful bouquet of lilies? Masculine, feminine, and that pop of unexpected ocean eyes? Colman Domingo is daddy, but this outfit is mother. Cancer energy abounds!

Leo: Tyla and Olivier Rousteing

Showing up to a black tie gala wearing sand is such a Leo vibe. What could be more fashionable than the magnificent contours of Leo’s body covered in sharp grains of silica? That hourglass clutch? A fabulous reminder that time is coming for the rest of the zodiac who sadly aren’t ruled by the Sun! But Tyla’s look was only perfected once designer Olivier Rousteing appeared, looking even better. Want to get a look at this body? Ha, you’d be lucky! Enjoy a literal face of sand staring back from the torso. None of us are worthy.

Virgo: Cole Escola

Gilbert Flores

Not even actual Virgo Zendaya could out-Virgo Cole Escola on this carpet! The innocent white color, the bow tie, the jacket, the hat, the veil, the goddamn dog-shaped basket of flowers, and the sensible shoes? Virgos everywhere, this look is a challenge to step up your own style game. Consider it a dainty glove slapped across your face.

Libra: Ayo Edebiri

Dimitrios Kambouris

“I’m here. I’m perfect. I’m funny, and I’m wearing flowers. I’m everybody’s favorite!” Ayo Edebiri is a Libra sun sign. Obviously! And my imagined inner monologue for her contains no lies: the Bottoms star is, in fact, perfect.

Scorpio: Dan Levy

Dia Dipasupil

Scorpio is more similar to Libra than anyone usually likes to admit. The two exist on a gradient spanning late October. At this year’s Met Gala, Ayo Edebiri and Dan Levy’s looks provide a visual representation of the similarity: a respectable front up top, with colorful chaos hidden underneath. Scorpio looks dark and forbidding on the surface, but the lucky few confidants they allow in their inner circles can see the flowers beneath their tough outer shells.

Sagittarius: Luca Guadagnino

Jamie McCarthy

Challengers director Luca Guadagnino showed up shiny, slouchy, and wearing dark sunglasses. His look suggested he was too cool to be hanging around with any of these people, but for some inexplicable reason he decided to come eat everybody up anyway. Real-life Leo sun sign Luca Guadagnino is this year’s Sagittarius representation on the Met staircase. I hope he made his way quickly through the carpet to take in the show and gobble up a sample of all of the phallic-shaped food on offer inside, just as any respectable Sagittarius would.

Capricorn: Jonathan Groff

Gilbert Flores

Zoomed out, it appears that Jonathan Groff is merely wearing a standard tux. Respectable, but boring. Then you get closer and realize not only that he is handsome, holy shit, but those floral details are interesting. The edge of the collar? Maybe even more so! You have to get really, really close to appreciate the details of this look, maybe even so near that you feel Jonathan Groff’s breath as he whispers into your ear. You won’t see the absolute best stuff right away, and that’s what makes this outfit a Capricorn.

Aquarius: Amy Fine Collins

We must venture beyond the realm of actors and musicians to locate a proper representative for Aquarius in this list. Only then can we find someone whose occupation is listed on Wikipedia as “journalist, muse, and author.” Vanity Fair special correspondent Amy Fine Collins might not be an Aquarius personally, but just look at that Aquarian list of job titles, and then look at this outfit! Thom Browne! Fascinator! Coat! Lapels! Spine! I mean, what the hell? It simply doesn’t get any better than this ensemble. This is the life we all should aspire to be living, and because it’s just a little weird, I’m gifting it to Aquarius.

Pisces: Lana Del Rey

Dimitrios Kambouris

Oh wait, who do we see now approaching the Met Gala carpet? A Bene Gesserit Reverend Mother from Dune? No, wait! It’s Lana del Rey, serving Lady Jessica Atreides realness. Pisces prefers to appear disempowered just before they use the Voice and go in for the kill, and here, it takes us a moment to see Lana’s face before we realize she’s slayed us all with this look.
