Chrishell Stause is many things: an actor, a realtor, and the wife of an Australian drummer named G Flip whose “Cruel Summer” cover plays on a near-constant loop in my brain. But an “imposter,” she most certainly is not!
The Selling Sunset star attended the GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles Thursday night in a look that her date G Flip astutely described as “hot metallic lava girl,” but her heartfelt Instagram post following the event also drew attention.
“Thank you for embracing someone that sometimes feels imposter syndrome because I am late to join the community,” Stause wrote, addressing the LGBTQ+ media advocacy organization. “You boldly embracing me gave me the courage to be loud and proud.”

As Cosmopolitan reported, the post elicited an immediate wave of support from fans who assured her that there is “no such thing as late to the community.” And as Them’s resident expert on all things Chrishell and G Flip, I would like to add my own voice to that chorus of support: If you are married to a nonbinary drummer — hell, if you’re even attracted to a nonbinary drummer — you are definitely queer, and you definitely belong here. The LGBTQ+ community has so many letters for a reason: It’s big enough to hold all of us.
Presumably, Stause feels some self-consciousness about sharing new parts of herself in her early forties, which is totally understandable even if it’s unwarranted. The reality star first revealed she was dating G Flip on a reunion episode of Selling Sunset in May 2022, on the heels of a closely watched relationship with O Group brokerage president Jason Oppenheim. The news came as a shock to many fans who perceived Stause as heterosexual, some of whom began leaving homophobic comments on her social media.
Since then, Stause has truly come into her own, fiercely defending her relationship both on and off the show. She has also starred in a sultry sapphic music video and played a pregnant lesbian in a Lifetime movie. And, oh yeah: she tied the knot with G Flip in Vegas last year. Not that you need any of those credentials to be part of the LGBTQ+ family! But virtually all of us at some point question whether we’re queer enough to truly call the community our own. I came out in my mid-twenties, and even at that relatively early age, I felt awkward at first labeling myself when I knew people who had been out since high school.
So I get why someone like Stause might still “sometimes” question her place, even as she’s presenting the GLAAD Media Award for outstanding drama series to Yellowjackets on stage next to G Flip, who literally writes love songs about her. (Look around! That’s a pretty gay thing to be doing, Chrishell!) But the truth is some of us are just too cool to be early. We’re not late because we came out in adulthood; we’re fashionably late, and the party’s just getting started.
